Sault No Match for St. Clair Men’s Baseball

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team swept a doubleheader from Sault College (Sault Ste. Marie) by scores of 2-0 and 12-2 Sunday afternoon at Mic Mac Park's Cullen Stadium field moving their record to 8-1 on the season.

The Saints played scoreless in the opening game with Sault until the bottom of the sixth inning when Mitch McCosh (Belle River, ON/Belle River) tripled home a run and then scored on a Joshua Hudvagner (Essex, ON/Essex) sacrifice fly.  That was all the scoring St. Clair starting pitcher Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) needed who threw a complete game 3-hit shutout that included a remarkable 12 strikeouts with only a single walk to earn his second win of year.  McCosh finished 2-for-3 as did Carter Reh (Harrow, ON/Kingsville) in the contest.

St. Clair carried momentum into game two and although they gave up two runs in the first inning, they put up two of their own in each of the first four frames for an 8-2 lead.  A 4-run fifth inning secured the mercy shortened win for the Saints capped by a Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) walk-off RBI single who finished 2-for-4.  Cody Moore (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) picked up his first win of the season with nine strikeouts after surrendering only two earned runs on seven hits.  Reh was 3-for-4 and scored three times for the Saints with Hunter Appleyard (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) collecting four RBI and going 2-for-4.  McCosh continued his hot hitting reaching base twice on a pair of doubles and scored twice with teammate Owen Findlay (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) slashing a couple of singles.  Josh Anderson (Ajax, ON) had his best game of the year for St. Clair going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI while adding a couple runs scored.

The Saints continue their OCAA schedule next weekend in the GTA where they will face Sheridan College (Brampton) on Saturday and George Brown (Toronto) on Sunday.
