Saints Cross Country in Calgary for Nationals

Calgary, AB – The St. Clair College Cross Country teams are out west for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships being hosted by St. Mary's University in Calgary, Alberta having qualified both teams with silver medals from the provincials.  Race times on Saturday for the meet on the St. Mary's campus are 3:00pm (EST) for the women's event followed by the men's event at 4:00pm (EST). 

At the OCAA meet the Saints were led by rookie Melody Knight (Tecumseh, ON/Tecumseh Vista) on the Women's side who was named an All-Ontario First-Team selection after finishing 7thMya Palumbo (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) was right behind in 8th place followed by Lily Pattinson (Windsor, ON/Riverside) in 14th position.  Palumbo and Pattinson were both named an All-Ontario Second-Team member for their efforts.  Hailey Jones (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) was 17th while Natasha Atherton (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) finished 30th and Samantha Marchenkowsky (Windsor, ON/Massey) was 41st for St. Clair.

The St. Clair Men were just four points shy of the top team at the provincials despite having all four scoring runners in the top 10.  Tyler Jones (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) became only the second 2-time OCAA Individual medalist in Saints' cross-country history after duplicating his 2017 effort with a silver performance and was just 15 seconds from the top spot.  OCAA Rookie of the Year award winner Jacob Fitzpatrick (Tecumseh, ON/Tecumseh Vista) ran to a 4th place finish for St. Clair with Rick Nepomuceno (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) not far behind in 5th place.  All three were named All-Ontario First-Team selections after finishing top seven in the field.

Matt Lafleur (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) became an All-Ontario Second-Team member after crossing the line in 10th place. Other finishers for the Saints were John Riley (St. Catharines) in 22nd place and Mitch Haggart (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) in 35th position.
