Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team posted 6-4 and 5-3 victories over George Brown College (Toronto) at Lacasse Park Sunday afternoon pushing their record to 12-4 in the OCAA standings.
In the first game the Saints were quickly ahead 3-0 after the 2nd inning but George Brown cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 3rd. St. Clair pushed their advantage to 4-2 in the bottom half before George Brown tied the game at 4-4 in the 6th. The Saints were able to push across a pair of runs on a double by Max Ayarza (Bocas del Toro, Panama) in their half of the 6th which proved to be the decisive blow. St. Clair starter Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, QC) was dominant recording 14 strikeouts in his 7 innings of work only surrendering 2 earned runs on 6 hits and a pair of walks. Garik Godard (Belle River, ON/Belle River District) and Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON) each had 2 hits apiece for the Saints.
Game two had a similar feel with the Saints jumping ahead 3-0 by the 3rd inning and saw George Brown respond with 3 runs in the 4th to tie the contest. But St. Clair once again came up big in the 6th inning with a pair of runs to close the scoring. Saints starting pitcher Taylor Pappin (Brantford, ON) went the distance giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits and a walk but was able to fan 8 batters. Dion, Kyle Gagnon (Belle River, ON/St. Anne) and Lucas Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) each swatted a pair of hits to lead the Saints offensively.
St. Clair will continue their OCAA schedule Friday night when they visit Fanshawe College at Labatt Park in London with game times of 6:00 and 8:00pm.
