Bio

Stewart joined the Saints Cross Country Coaching Staff in 2018 with over 40 years of experience in distance running as a competitor, coach and mentor.  He is a Windsor native who competed locally for F.J. Brennan High School in cross country, track and wrestling.

Stewart brings a wealth of knowledge to the St. Clair program having competed in over 20 half and full marathons as well as many trail races since the early 1980’s.  He has also completed 6 Ironman Triathlons in addition to multiple races in that discipline covering a wide range of distances.  An avid sportsman he enjoyed competitive racquetball until the mid-1990’s when his entire focus shifted to running and triathlons.

Stewart’s coaching credentials include 16 years as the Head Coach of the Wrestling team at St. Joseph’s High School before moving on to Tecumseh Vista Academy when they opened their doors in 2012.  He was partly responsible for spearheading the beginnings of their cross country program and has served as the Head Coach the past 6 years.  Stewart is also an Assistant Coach for Tecumseh Vista with the Wrestling program and Track team for distance running.  Additionally, he has helped organize many community races and supported various running clinics while aiding numerous athletes as a distance running advisor.

As a testament to Stewart’s appeal he joined a close friend (Marty Denonville) on a bike trip across Canada in 2016 called “Two Guys, Four Wheels and One Cause” which raised money and awareness in support of Huntington’s disease.  That 7,500-km trek started at Vancouver’s Stanley Park in May and finished 73 days later in St. John’s Newfoundland.
