Bio

Paul Boots became the Saints Varsity Cross Country Head Coach in 2015 and has qualified for the CCAA National Championships in each of his five seasons.  After narrowly missing the provincial podium with the Women's team in his rookie year he helped guide them to an OCAA Silver Medal in 2016 which included three All-Ontario 2nd Team performances. 

In 2017 Boots helped move his Men's side into the spotlight with a Team Silver Medal that contained an Individual Silver Medal finish.  That year the squad with four All-Ontario Team members, an OCAA Rookie of the Year and an All-Canadian. 

Coach Boots had a banner year in 2018 with the Men’s Team capping an undefeated season on their way to winning OCAA Provincial Gold and their first ever CCAA National Championship.  Individual Awards included four All-Ontario selections including three 1st Team and a 2nd Team in addition to the Rookie of the Year and another All-Canadian. 

2019 was quite the season as well with Coach Boots being instrumental in allowing St. Clair to play host an Invitational race along with the OCAA Provincial Championships for the first time since 2009.  St. Clair achieved their first Men’s Individual Gold Medal since 2006 that resulted in a Men’s Team Silver Medal. In all St. Clair recorded two 1st Team All-Ontario and another 2nd Team selection in addition to the OCAA Rookie of the Year.  That was followed by a Men’s Team Silver Medal, Individual Men’s Silver Medal and a pair of All-Canadian selections. 

Boots’ teams have been extremely strong academically boasting four St. Clair Don Hogan Varsity Team Academic Awards (2017-2020) with the highest GPA across Saints tournament and league sports.  He was also recognized with the John Albert Strasser Award in 2018 which recognizes the St. Clair Varsity Coach whose team achieves success athletically while making significant contributions to the community.  Boots was named the Gerald Serviss St. Clair Inter-Collegiate Coach of the Year for the 2018-19 season which is awarded to the Saints coach whose teams exemplify a high level of performance, sportsmanship, dedication and leadership.  Annually Coach Boots organizes his team to assist with the Windsor Goodfellows holiday newspaper sales campaign which provides a major source of local community support for thousands of families in need every year in the form of Christmas meals, gifts to the weekly food bank, school breakfast programs in addition to supplying children with shoes and boots. 

Boots is a Windsor native and former OFSAA Track & Field Champion from F.J. Brennan high school where he was named both the Junior and Senior Athlete of the Year.  He moved on to compete at the University of Windsor earning his Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree (1988) and was a participant in the Canadian Track and Field Championships (1986).  Boots later completed his Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of British Colombia (1989) where he started his coaching career leading Burnaby Central High School to the Provincial Championship Title (1990) in Victoria, BC.  After returning to Windsor to continue his teaching career Boots began building the program at St. Anne High School where he led the Saints to three consecutive County team championships and also assisted with the Windsor Legion Track Club.  He quickly moved to St. Thomas of Villanova and again built a County championship team.  Moving with his teaching career to St. Joseph’s High School, Boots put together four consecutive WECSSAA City Championship teams.  

Boots is currently employed with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board as a Continuous Intake Coop Teacher coordinating a program called ‘Opportunity Diploma’ which is geared at adult students achieving their diploma.
