St. Clair Cross Country Rub Elbows with NCAA Athletes

Bowling Green, OH – The St. Clair College Cross Country team treated themselves to a nice experience Friday night when they competed in their first event of the season at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Invitational Meet hosted on the campus of Bowling Green State University which was a chance for the Saints to run against NCAA Division I athletes.  Bowling Green State University will also be hosting their Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship in late October on their campus course.

The women's race featured a deep field of 110 competitors and the St. Clair team finished in 10th position led by freshman Camryn Crawford (Kemptville, ON) who covered the 6km course in a time of 26:57.  3rd year runner Melody Knight (Tecumseh, ON/Tecumseh Vista) came across in 28:12 with rookies Jillian Stratichuk (Belle River, ON/St. Anne), Justine Abbott (Wyoming, ON) and Kendra Bell (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) all following within a few minutes to complete the St. Clair contingent.

The Saints were led on the Men's side by 2nd year runner Michael Horrobin (Wallaceburg, ON) who crossed in a time of 29:48 over the 8km layout.  Newcomers Cameron Finch (Forest, ON) was next in 30:33 followed closely by fellow rookie Wesley Hearn (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) in 30:40.  2nd year Russell Niedre (Ottawa, ON) finished in 31:41 with Nicholas Horrobin (Wallaceburg, ON) and Noah Nicoletti (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) coming across over the next 40 seconds.  The St. Clair Men were 8th in the team competition that had a field 103 finishers.

The St. Clair Cross Country team will next be in action at the Seneca College King Challenge Invitational Meet on Fri, Sep. 22nd in King City, ON.
