Men’s Cross Country Win National Bronze

Medicine Hat, AB – The St. Clair College Men's Cross Country team ran to a National Bronze Medal Saturday afternoon in frigid conditions at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Championships hosted on the campus of Medicine Hat College (Alberta).  This makes consecutive bronze medals for the Saints and the fourth straight year with a podium finish at the nationals.

Tyler Jones (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) led St. Clair with a 4th Place finish in a time of 26:00 over the 8km snow covered loop and will complete his Saints career as a 5-time CCAA All-Canadian team member.  2nd year runner Jacob Fitzpatrick (Tecumseh, ON/Tecumseh Vista) also earned All-Canadian status after placing 7th in a time of 26:10 with 5th year teammate Rick Nepomuceno (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) finishing 12th (26:33).  2nd year captain Matt Lafleur (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) was 49th (29:00) for the Saints after battling through illness over the final 2km.  Other finishers for the Saints were rookies Russell Niedre (Ottawa, ON) in 91st position (31:49) and Michael Horrobin (Wallaceburg, ON) in 93rd place (31:53) in a field of 114 competitors. 

The St. Clair Women were 15th out of the 18 schools entered and were led by 3rd year runner Mya Palumbo (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) in 55th position with a time of 26:10 in a field of 117 finishers over the 6km course.  3rd year captain Natasha Atherton (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) was 67th in 26:47 while 2nd year runner Melody Knight (Tecumseh, ON/Tecumseh Vista) finished 89th in a time of 28:06.  Rookie Victoria Skoyles (Mount Elgin, ON) was 98th (29:18) followed by Narjis Sharifi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) in 107th position (31:04) and Montana Wilkins (Cottam, ON/Essex) in 110th (32:23 to round out the Saints team.
