Jones Captures Gold as Saints Compete in 25th Annual Falcons XC Invitational

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair Saints Cross Country teams travelled to London, ON on Saturday to compete in the 25th Annual Falcons XC Invitational hosted by Fanshawe College. The men's team finished 2nd out of 12 teams and the women's team finished 4th out of 8 teams in London.

In the men's competition, 5th year runner Tyler Jones (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) ran the 8km course in a time of 25:11, ousting the nearest runner by 25 seconds to capture his second consecutive gold medal of the season. The Saints had 2 other runners finish in the top 8, with Rick Nepomuceno (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) finishing in 5th (25:52) as he narrowly missed the podium by 7 seconds, and Matt Lafleur (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) finishing in 8th place (26:57). Rounding out the St. Clair men's performers were 1st year runner Michael Horrobin (Wallaceburg, ON) who was 40th (32:20) and 2nd year athlete Mitch Haggart (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) who was 48th (33:51).

The women's field had 51 competitors take the line in London to compete in the 6km race, where the Saints were lead by Mya Palumbo (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) who finished 11th with a time of 25:04 while Natasha Atherton (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) finished the race in 15th (26:00). Melody Knight (22nd, 27:19), Victoria Skoyles (25th, 27:32) and Narjis Sharifi (41st, 29:58) were the other competitors for the Saints.

The Saints will enjoy Thanksgiving weekend off before returning to competition on October 15th at Centennial College for their final preparations before the OCAA Championships.
