
Women's Volleyball Playing for OCAA Gold Saturday
Etobicoke, ON- The St. Clair Saints women's volleyball team is looking to make history on Saturday evening in Toronto. The Saints are seeking their first OCAA gold medal since winning their lone provincial title in 1997.
St. Clair defeated the Fanshawe Falcons on Friday night in the semi-final to earn their way into the gold medal match. The match score was 3-0 but the game was much closer than it appeared with the set scores in favour of St. Clair 25-18, 25-22, and 25-22 and the Saints coming up big late in all three sets.
Haleigh Kearns (Prince George, BC; DP Todd Secondary) led the way for the Saints with 13 kills including a .364 kill percentage along with 2 service aces and 14 digs. Kearns named Player of the Game for St. Clair for her efforts.
With the win, St. Clair will now face the host Humber Hawks for OCAA Gold at 5 pm on Saturday. The winner will advance to the CCAA Nationals being hosted in Oshawa by Durham College.
The Saints dropped both of their regular season matches to Humber by scores of 3-0 and 3-1 for their only two losses of the season. St. Clair ended the regular season with a record of 16-2 and in 2nd place in the OCAA West while the Hawks were 18-0 and in 1st place in the West. St. Clair is ranked 2nd in Ontario and 11th in Canada while Humber is ranked 1st in Ontario and 3rd in Canada.
