Two Big Wins for Women's Volleyball

(Windsor, ON)- The St. Clair women's volleyball team continued their OCAA regular season schedule at home this weekend with two big games at the Sportsplex.

On Saturday afternoon the Saints hosted the Redeemer University Royals (Ancaster) and came away with a 3-0 win.

Set scores for St. Clair were 25-17, 25-10 and 25-20. It was a solid all around team performance with key contributions for several players. Outside hitter Sarah Dobinson (Whitby; Donald A. Wilson) led the way with 13 kills, 3 service aces, 1 stuff block and 5 digs. Outside hitter Chantal DeVlugt (Wyoming; LCCVI) had a big game as well with 11 kills, 2 service aces, 2 stuff blocks and 2 digs. Third year setter Rileigh Davis (Georgetown; Georgetown District) had a solid game with 3 kills, 33 assists and 5 digs. With the loss Redeemer's record fell to 1-4 on the season.

On Sunday afternoon the Saints hosted the Niagara Knights (Welland) and won a hard fought match 3-1. It was Senior Day for the Saints who honoured graduating players Ashley Yuen, Lia DeGirolamo and Alexis Stewart prior to the match.

Set scores for St. Clair were 24-26, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-23. Dobinson led the way again with 20 kills, 1 service ace, 2 stuff blocks and 16 digs.  Rookie Ashley Maleyko (LaSalle; Villanova) also had a solid match with 6 kills on 15 attempts and 1 stuff block.

With the two wins St. Clair improved to 5-2 on the season while Niagara dropped to 4-3. The St. Clair women are currently ranked in 4th Ontario and 12th in Canada

The Saints play their final home game of the season on Friday, March 4 at 12:30 pm when they host the top ranked Humber Hawks at the Sportsplex.
