Two Big Wins for Women's Soccer

The St. Clair College women's soccer team had a very good weekend with two big wins on the road.

On Saturday afternoon, the Saints were in Ancaster and came away with a solid 2-1 win over the undefeated Redeemer University Royals.

Redeemer went up 1-0 in the 19th minute but St. Clair bounced back to tie the game on a nice goal by Victoria Walsh (Georgetown; Christ the King) assisted by Alexa Mognon (LaSalle; Assumption) in the 36th minute. The Saints went up 2-1 in the 65th minute on a tally by Mognon. Lily Estephan (Windsor; Brennan) was solid in goal turning aside all 3 shots she faced to earn the win. St. Clair had 15 shot attempts compared to 8 for the Royals. The Redeemer keeper had a big game making 11 saves.

Redeemer's record dropped to 2-1 on the season. The Royals were ranked 3rd in Ontario and 13th in Canada heading into weekend play.

On Sunday afternoon, the Saints were in Welland to take on the Niagara Knights who also had not lost this season and dominated the match winning 4-1.

The Saints jumped out to a quick 1- 0 lead on a goal by Natalie Kersey (Belle River, St. Anne's) in the 5th minute. The Knights tied things up quickly at 1-1 in the 11th minute. St. Clair took the lead 2-1 in the 40th minute on a goal by Leah Burrell (Windsor, Brennan) assisted by Mognon. Kersey got her second of the match on a nice goal in the 55th minute. Brianna Kinsley-Clough (Georgetown; Christ the King) iced the game in the 90th minute to make it 4-1. The Saints had 25 shot attempts compared to 10 for Niagara. Estephan was good in goal once again turning aside 3 or 4 shots on target.

Niagara's record fell to 3-1 with the loss. The Knights were ranked in 5th Ontario.

St. Clair is currently ranked 9th in the OCAA with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss.
