Women's Soccer Add Top Keeper

(Windsor, ON) The St. Clair College Department of Athletics and women's soccer program is pleased to announce the signing of Sofia Ovcharenko for the 2024-25 season.

Ovcharenko is a 5'6 keeper from Edmonton who is transferring from the University of Alberta Augustana where she played for 3 seasons. This past season she was named an ACAC All-Conference goalkeeper and was also named a CCAA All-Canadian. Ovcharenko joins 14 other student-athletes nationwide who received this prestigious award and was the only goalkeeper to be named this year. She became the first Vikings Women's Soccer student-athlete to win the award.

She is a graduate of Austin O'Brien High School in Edmonton. Sofia also played club soccer for the St. Albert Impact Division I and the Premier League. She will be taking the Fashion Design Program at St. Clair.

Sofia is looking forward to joining the Saints program. "I am thrilled to have been recruited by and to commit to St. Clair for the next two seasons. I look forward to training with highly experienced coaches and playing with such a strong group of women. Studying Fashion at St. Clair will be an exciting new path for me and I can't wait to see where it takes me."

Head Coach, Steve Vagnini is excited to add Sofia to his roster.  "Sophia brings a lot of energy to this team. We are looking forward to Sophia joining an already very good goalkeeping duo. I hold my goalkeepers to an extremely high standard and now the competition, learning, leadership, and comradery have taken a turn for the better."
