Women's Soccer Take First Loss of Season

The St. Clair College women's soccer team had a tough weekend as they travelled to the Hamilton area for two matches on the road against a couple of top ranked opponents.

On Friday night, the Saints were in Ancaster to take on the Redeemer Royals and came away with a solid 2-2 tie. The Royals are ranked 3rd in Ontario and 13th in Canada.

St. Clair fell behind 1-0 in the 33rd minute but Alessia Olivito (Windsor; Holy Names) tied it up at the beginning of the second half in the 49th minute. Redeemer went up 2-1 in the 66th minute but the Saints bounced back again to even the match on a goal by Brianne Kingsley-Clough (Georgetown; Christ the King) in the 78th minute.

Redeemer's record moved to 2 wins and 3 draws on the season with the tie.

On Saturday afternoon, the young Saints squad suffered their first loss of the season falling to the Mohawk Mountaineers by a score of 3-0.

The match was fairly evenly played but Mohawk capitalized on their scoring chances while the Saints did not. Shots attempts were in favour for the Mountaineers 13-9.

Mohawk's record improved to 4-1 on the season with the win. The Mountaineers are ranked 6th in Ontario.

St. Clair is currently ranked 7th in the OCAA with a record of 2 wins, 1 loss and a tie. Strikers Jessica Doll (LaSalle; Villanova) and Victoria Walsh (Georgetown; Christ the King) played well on the weekend but just couldn't find the back of the net on several chances.

The Saints are next in action on Saturday, September 30 when they host the Niagara Knights at 2 pm at Acumen Stadium at the Sportsplex.
