Women’s Basketball Drop First Game to Lambton

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team (6-1) lost their first game of the regular season Wednesday night at the SportsPlex by a score of 70-57 to Lambton College (Sarnia) who moves in front of the Saints atop the West Division standings with a 7-1 record.

A tough shooting night from the outset for the Saints led to a 17-13 deficit by the end of the first quarter and Lambton stretched their lead to 33-25 by halftime.  St. Clair had their best shooting result (43%) in the third quarter but unfortunately so did the visitors (50%) who took a 54-42 advantage into the final frame.  The Saints could only come within eight points with just over three minutes to play in the fourth before Lambton pulled away in the final moments.

Lambton outrebounded (42-33) and owned the paint where they outscored St. Clair 46-12 in the contest which came mostly from transition points.  Lambton also held the Saints to 27.4% shooting from the floor in the game and even though they made 9 triples their conversion rate was only 23.7%.

Janae Smith (Warren, MI) led St. Clair with 15 points and added 6 rebounds while Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON) was the only other Saint in double figures with 13 points to go with 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

The St. Clair Women have the weekend off before travelling to Niagara College (Welland) and Mohawk College (Hamilton) Dec. 1-2 which will wrap up their first semester schedule.
