Women’s Basketball 6-0 After Sheridan Win

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team have moved their undefeated record to 6-0 in the OCAA's West Division after a convincing 75-43 win over Sheridan College (Brampton) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex. 

The Saints jumped out in front early with a 20-10 first quarter lead but held Sheridan to a paltry eight points in the second for a 40-18 advantage by halftime.  St. Clair allowed that deficit to shrink the third quarter, but the visitors still trailed 49-33 entering the fourth. The Saints put on the gas down the stretch and led by as much as 32 points with four minutes to play and eased into the victory. 

St. Clair forced 34 Sheridan turnovers and scored 36 points on the possession changes which allowed them to attempt 38 more shots in the contest.  The Saints also used their depth to outscore Sheridan 27-3 in points off the bench.  St. Clair also continued their consistent distance shooting making 13 triples in the game while limiting Sheridan to only a pair of makes. 

Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON) led the Saints with a game-high 18 points to go with 9 rebounds and 7 assists.  Shae-lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) scored 13 points while adding 5 rebounds and 5 assists which was equaled by Ania Buklarewicz (Mississauga, ON) who also reached double figures with 13 tallies.  Janae Smith (Warren, MI) had another well-rounded effort with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals for St. Clair.    

The St. Clair Women host Lambton College (Sarnia) on Wednesday with tip time set for 6:00pm in a pivotal matchup that will be a battle for the top spot in the West Division.
