Women’s Basketball Drop Humber

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team were 72-61 winners over Humber College (Etobicoke) Friday night at the SportsPlex moving their OCAA West Division leading record to 5-0.

The teams shared leads in the early stages of a low scoring frame and after a 10-10 tie the Saints used a 7-0 run to end the first quarter to go up 17-10.  Humber responded and outscored the home team in the second quarter but still trailed 36-33 at the break.  Humber gained momentum in the third who quickly overtook St. Clair for a 5-point lead.  The Saints fought back to regain a 56-52 advantage entering the fourth quarter.  St. Clair took control from that point and grew their lead to 14 points with four minutes to play which allowed them to cruise down the stretch.

The teams were evenly matched statistically but the Saints shot nearly 40% from the floor and outshot Humber 8-2 in 3-pointers.  Although they shared near identical turnovers St. Clair scored 27 points off 21 Humber mishaps in addition to recording an 11-3 differential in bench scoring.

Shae-lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) led the Saints with 20 points including four triples but was nearly equaled by teammate Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON) who scored 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.  Janae Smith (Warren, MI) chipped in with 13 points and 6 rebounds for St. Clair.

The St. Clair Women finish their weekend homestand on Saturday against Sheridan College (Brampton) which tips at 2:00pm.
