Women’s Basketball 3-0 After Road Fanshawe Win

London, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team remain undefeated after an 86-69 win over Fanshawe College (London) at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre Friday night.

The teams traded punches in the early stages and Fanshawe was able to take a 6-point lead with a few minutes left in the first quarter.  However, the Saints closed the first well to tie the game (15-15) headed to the second quarter.  Both squads were loose offensively before halftime with St. Clair taking a modest 39-35 cushion by the intermission by clearing the glass well and making four triples in the frame.  Stifling defense by the Saints in the third quarter limited Fanshawe to just five made field goals and the home team fell behind 60-46 headed to the fourth.  St. Clair was able to grow their lead to as much as 21 points with just over four minutes to play and cruised down the stretch.

The Saints won the war on the glass (48-40) and had a decided advantage off the bench outscoring Fanshawe 29-8 thanks mostly to the efforts of Ania Buklarewicz (Mississauga, ON) who scored a game high 21 points in as many minutes of playing time which included five makes from the beyond the 3-point arc.

Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON) scored 20 points and flirted with a double-double after dishing out 9 assists for St. Clair and teammate Jordan Gutt (Haifa, Israel) scored 13 of her 16 points in the second half.  Janae Smith (Warren, MI) had another nice all-around game scoring 11 points and added 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.

The St. Clair Women stay on the road next week travelling to Sarnia on Saturday and face Lambton College who is also unbeaten at 4-0 in the West Division.
