Women’s Basketball Top Redeemer in Opener

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team began their OCAA West Division regular season Friday evening at the SportsPlex with a convincing 83-60 win over Redeemer University (Ancaster). 

The Saints took control early with a 23-16 opening quarter lead but were outscored in the second (21-18) which resulted in a 41-37 halftime advantage.  St. Clair held Redeemer to just one field goal in the deciding third quarter and were up 63-48 heading to the final frame.  The Saints increased their lead down the stretch to the final margin. 

St. Clair made 13 long balls in the game but forced 19 Redeemer turnovers which led to 18 points.  Redeemer outrebounded St. Clair 53-44 but could only take advantage of free throw opportunities where they outscored St. Clair 18-10.

Saints' 5th year transfer Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON) led all scorers with 27 points but added a remarkable 9 assists to go with 7 rebounds.  Jordan Gutt (Haifa, Israel) was equally impressive for St. Clair recording a double-double that included 20 points and 11 rebounds while adding 4 blocked shots.  Janae Smith (Warren, MI) also reached double figures for the Saints scoring 14 points but pulled down 7 rebounds to help her team in the win. 

The St. Clair Women finish the weekend homestand on Saturday when they host Conestoga College (Kitchener) at 2:00pm.
