Conestoga Outshoots St. Clair Women’s Basketball

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team suffered through shooting woes and lost 76-59 to Conestoga College (Kitchener) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex.  With the loss the Saints' record falls to 5-5 and are tied for 4th place with Niagara (5-5) and Conestoga (5-6) in the win column.

The teams played fairly even in the early stages and midway through the first quarter St. Clair led 11-7 but Conestoga pulled back in front for a 17-15 advantage heading to the second.  The visitors extended their lead to 36-24 by the halftime intermission.  The Saints closed to within a point (40-39) with a few minutes to go in the third quarter outscoring Conestoga 16-14 in the frame.  Even though the scoring loosened up in the fourth quarter, St. Clair would not come any closer as Conestoga stretched their lead to as much as 17 points late in the game.

St. Clair forced 20 Conestoga turnovers but could capitalize enough to overcome an abysmal shooting performance that saw them only make a single triple while shooting 32% overall.  Conestoga was comfortable enough to shoot 58% from distance and 49% overall.

Janae Smith (Warren, MI) led St. Clair with 14 points while adding 8 rebounds in a losing cause.  Alyssa Lucier (Wallaceburg, ON) and Grace Smrke (Sudbury, ON) each reached double figures for the Saints with 10 points apiece.

Conestoga's Yasmeen Smith (Cambridge, ON) scored a game high 24 points and recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds.  Megan White (Waterloo, ON) celebrated a milestone eclipsing the Conestoga career regular season scoring record and needed all of her 11 points to set the new standard at 793 in her four seasons of play.

The Saints finish their weekend home stand when they host Sheridan College (Brampton, ON) on Sunday which tips at 1:00pm.
