Huge Upset Playoff Win for Men's Volleyball
(Barrie, ON) The St. Clair men's volleyball team has qualified for the OCAA Quarterfinals after pulling off a huge upset win on the road on Saturday afternoon in Barrie. The Saints defeated the Georgian Grizzlies 3-2 in a thrilling match to earn their way to the OCAA Elite 8.
The Saints ended the regular season with a record of 6-10 and in 8th place in the West Division while the Grizzlies were 17-1 and in 1st in the East Division. The Grizzlies are ranked 2nd in Ontario and 10th in Canada.
Set scores for St. Clair were 25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 27-29 and 15-12
St. Clair was led by fourth year middle Zach Walls (Amherstburg; Villanova) with 20 kills including an amazing .909 kill percentage, 2 service aces and 2 stuff blocks. Third year outside hitter Kale Wilkinson (Windsor; Riverside) also had a big match with 22 kills (.265 kill %), 2 service aces, and 2 stuff blocks.
The Saints will now travel to Kitchener on Saturday, February 15th to face the Conestoga Condors (4th West Division) at 6 pm. The winner will advance to the OCAA Final Four Championship. The Saints dropped both regular season matches to the Condors. Conestoga is ranked 5th in Ontario.
