Men's Soccer to Play for National Bronze Saturday

The St. Clair College men's soccer team will play for a National Bronze Medal on Saturday at the CCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The Saints earned their way with a hard fought 2-1 win over the Vancouver Island Mariners.

St. Clair opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a penalty shot that was awarded after Moussa Nizam was taken down in the box. Massimo Pollard calmly stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the other way and buried it in the back of the net. St. Clair seemed to have the game under control and take a 1-0 lead into the half. However, a goal kick right before the end of the half went straight to the Mariners at half field. They quickly countered and beat a couple defenders before Grayson Chalifoux slid it pass the St. Clair keeper.

The beginning of the second half saw both teams getting some quality chances with neither able to convert. In the last 20 minutes of the match, St. Clair took control to take the lead and play for bronze on Saturday bug two chances in tight both hit the side netting. It looked like were headed to PKs to decide a winner. However, in the 88th minute,  Moussa Nazim redirected a cross Patrick Maheux past the Mariners goalkeeper sealing the spot in the bronze medal match.

The Saints will now meet the Keyano Huskies at 1:30 pm at Acumen Stadium in a rematch of their first match of the championships which saw the Saints win 3-1. St. Clair has never won a national medal in men's soccer.
