Men's Indoor Soccer Playing for OCAA Medal Friday

(Vaughan, ON) The St. Clair men's varsity indoor soccer team travelled to Vaughan to take part in the OCAA Championship on Thursday at the Ontario Soccer Centre. The Saints came away with a record of 2-1 on the day and finished in first place in their pool.

In their first round robin match, St. Clair defeated George Brown College 2-1. Ezra Fogal (Windsor; St. Joseph's) put the Saints up 1-0 on a beautiful strike halfway through the first half.  The Huskies tied it up early in the second half at 1-1. Nestor Lopez (Windsor; FJ Brennan) scored on a penalty kick in the dying minutes to win the game after he was taken down in the box by the George Brown keeper.

The Saints dropped their second game to the Conestoga Condors in a tight back and forth match 1-0 that could have went either way.

In their final game of the day, St. Clair had to win to ensure they would advance and came away with a hard fought 2-1 win over the Humber Hawks. Zain Nizam (Windsor; Kennedy) scored both goals for the Saints.

Keeper Nedeljko Malic (Windsor; Sandwich Secondary) was solid in goal all day for St. Clair. Defender Joao Santos (Brazil) was great all day for the Saints as well.

With the first place finish in their pool, St. Clair will face their rival from up the 401, the Fanshawe Falcons at 11 am on Friday. The other semifinal will feature the Conestoga Condors taking on the Seneca Sting.

The winners will play for Gold at 2:30 pm while the losers will play for Bronze at 1:00 pm at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
