Men's Indoor Soccer Win OCAA Regionals

Ancaster (ON) The St. Clair men's varsity indoor soccer team travelled to Ancaster to take part in the OCAA Regionals on Wednesday at Redeemer University. The Saints came home Regional Champions with 2 wins and a draw on the day.

In their first match, St. Clair tied Sault College (Sault. Ste. Marie) by a score of 0-0. The Saints dominated play and time of possession but could not buy a goal hitting 4 posts and the Sault keeper making some great saves.

The Saints defeated Sheridan College (Brampton) in their second game by a score of 3-0. Goal scorers for St. Clair were Dillon Hayes (Amherstburg; General Amherst), Matt Montaleone (Windsor; Holy Names) and Matteo Grahovac (Windsor; Riverside).

In their third match the Saints defeated Conestoga College (Kitchener) by a score of 1-0. In a game that Conestoga had to win to advance St. Clair controlled the play and had several great chances but could not score until late when Massimo Pollard (Windsor; Holy Names) finally buried a chance for the Saints to secure the win.

Thomas Kogel (Windsor; St. Joseph's) was in goal for all three games and was outstanding throughout the day not allowing a single goal. Defender Fred Colares (Brazil) had an outstanding tournament as well anchoring the St. Clair defense.

With the first place finish the men have once again qualified for the OCAA Championships on March 30 & 31 at the Ontario Soccer Centre. St. Clair was preparing to play in the Championship semi-final on the second day of play in 2020 but the event was cancelled last minute the morning of that match due to COVID 19 concerns.
