Men's Indoor Soccer Win Redeemer Tournament

Ancaster (ON) The St. Clair men's varsity indoor soccer team travelled to Ancaster to take part in the Redeemer University Invitational Tournament on Thursday, March 3. The Saints came home tournament champions going 3-1-0 on the day.

In their first match of the day, St. Clair tied St. Lawrence College (Kingston) 2-2. Massimo Pollard (Windsor; Holy Names) and Mateo Grahovac (Windsor; Riverside) scored for the Saints.

The Saints defeated Conestoga College (Kitchener) 3-0 in their second game. Pollard, Grahovac and Evan Mendonca (Wallacetown; West Elgin) scored for St. Clair.

In their third match, the Saints defeated Lakehead Orillia by a score of 7-0. Matt Montaleone (Windsor; Holy Names) led the way for St. Clair with 4 goals while Carlos DaGloria Junior (Leamington; Cardinal Carter) had 2 and Grahovac rounded out the scoring.

The Saints faced the host Redeemer University in their final game and came away with a 1-0 win to win the tournament. Pollard scored the lone goal for St. Clair.

Thomas Kogel (Windsor; St. Joseph's) and Jonathan Rondinelli (Windsor; Riverside) split the duties in goal for the event and both were solid throughout the day. Fred Colares (Brazil) had an outstanding tournament as well leading the Saints defense.

It was the first OCAA action for the indoor team since the OCAA Championships in March 2020. St. Clair was preparing to play in the Championship semi-final on the second day but the event was cancelled last minute the morning of that match due to COVID 19 concerns.

The St. Clair men are next in action on Wednesday March 9 when they will head back to Redeemer to take part in the OCAA Regionals in hopes of qualifying for the OCAA Championships on March 30 & 31
