Men’s Basketball Split at George Brown Invitational

Toronto, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team had a rare loss this past weekend taking a split at the George Brown College Invitational Tournament in Toronto at their Casa Loma campus gym.  The Saints fell 60-57 Friday night against Seneca Polytechnic (North York) but rebounded for an 88-58 win over Loyalist College (Belleville) on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday the Saints looked to run away from Seneca early taking a 25-11 after the first quarter but it turned quickly as the Sting fought back to just a 29-17 deficit by halftime.  St. Clair only made one triple the remainder of the game and shot under 30% from the floor as Seneca controlled the boards coupled with a sizeable advantage in bench scoring.

Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) had another dominant double-double performance for the Saints netting 17 points to go with 11 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.  Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) was the only other St. Clair player in double figures with 12 points while adding 5 steals.

On Saturday Loyalist took a 20-18 lead after the first quarter before the Saints responded with a 20-6 second and never looked back enjoying a 52-38 in paint scoring.

Galdo Tutu (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) and Tiea each recorded a double-double in the contest with 10 rebounds apiece to go with 11 and 10 points respectively.  Hamza Hamdan (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) scored 11 points for St. Clair and Amari Frye (Ypsilanti, MI) chipped in with 10 points.

The Saints start the second half of their OCAA West Division league schedule next weekend as they host Sheridan College (Brampton) on Saturday and Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke) on Sunday.
