Men’s Basketball Suffer First Loss Against Sheridan

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team (5-1) suffered their first loss in regular season play after falling 93-88 to Sheridan College (Brampton) Saturday evening at the SportsPlex.

The Saints started very well with a 30-19 opening frame, but Sheridan turned the tables outscoring the home team 32-19 in the second for a 51-49 halftime advantage.  St. Clair battled for a 71-68 lead after the third in the back-and-forth contest holding Sheridan to just 30% shooting in the quarter.  Sheridan used an 8-0 run early in the fourth that set-up an entertaining stretch run by both teams.  In a game that saw 11 ties and 11 lead changes each squad had control before a few big triples in the final minutes allowed Sheridan to steal the victory.

The Saints were outrebounded 47-35 and allowed Sheridan to outduel them 15-5 in second chance points which were deciding statistics in the outcome.  Sheridan also scored 25 points off 17 uncharacteristic Saints turnovers.  St. Clair did shoot a better percentage from the floor at 47% capitalizing with 54 points in the paint.  But the Saints had 10 less attempts overall and only made 4 triples against a stingy Sheridan perimeter zone defense.

Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) had a game high 31 points to lead St. Clair while adding 6 rebounds and 5 assists.  Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) had his best game of the year with 29 points in addition to 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocked shots for the Saints.  Andrew Loyuk (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) reached double figures with 14 points to go with 7 assists and although scoreless Jadon Tillman (Warren, MI) had a remarkable 9 assists for St. Clair.

The St. Clair Men will have an important game on Wednesday when they host Lambton College (Sarnia) at the SportsPlex which tips at 8:00pm.
