
Higginbottom Climbs Leaderboard at Nationals
KING TOWNSHIP, ON – The St. Clair College Golf teams had a better day in round two at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships presented by PING. The event is being hosted at Red Crest Golf Club by Humber College. Scoring was extremely tough on another very cold and windy day.
The St. Clair men are sitting in 6th position after two rounds but are only 13 strokes out of bronze medal position with two more rounds to play. The Saints were led by Spencer Higginbottom (Lakeshore; Tecumseh Vista) who shot an outstanding even par 71. It was the lowest round of the day for the men by two strokes and moved Higginbottom up the individual leaderboard into 6th place with a two day total of 8 over 150 only three strokes out of a medal. The average score for the men's field on the day was 80.13.
Alyssa Cowling (Oldcastle; Villanova) was the top St. Clair female shooting a 6 over 77 and is tied for 5th place overall. Cowling had the third best round of the day and is only six strokes out a medal. Justine Gorham (Amherstburg; L'Essor) had a solid round as well shooting an 84. Cowling and Gorham are on team OCAA2 and in 4th place in the women's conference competition but only four strokes away from a medal.

The scheduled 72-hole tournament runs through Friday. Golfers representing twelve Canadian colleges from Ontario, Alberta and Quebec are taking part.
The tournament consists of four 18-hole rounds, weather permitting. The men's and women's player posting the lowest gross score through 72 holes will earn their respective individual championship.
Men's teams consist of five golfers, with the top four individual scores of each round contributing to the total team score. Schools with the lowest aggregate of gross scores after 72 holes win the respective team titles.
The women's team competition is a conference based event with 3 players on each conference team and the top 2 counting each day.
