Golf Team Adds to Roster for 2024

(Windsor, ON) The St. Clair College Department of Athletics and the varsity golf program is pleased to announce the commitment of three golfers for the 2024-25 school year.

The Saints have signed Alyssa Cowling, Jack Zylstra and Steven Hill.

Cowling is from Oldcastle and is graduating from St. Thomas of Villanova. Alyssa will be enrolled in the Power Engineering program.  Cowling placed second at WECSSAA and second at SWOSSAA in both 2022 and 2023. She placed 10th overall at the OFSAA Championship in 2022. She also took part in the Ontario Summer Games in 2022 representing the local Jamieson Golf Tour and contributing to the winning of the gold medal in the girl's team event.

Cowling is looking forward to being a part of St. Clair. "After speaking with, and receiving offers from coaches from US schools, I was hesitant to commit as I felt something was always missing whether on the academic or athletic side. When I met with Coach Corriveau it felt like all the pieces just fit together… A great coach, a competitive field and playing schedule, and I'm able to pursue my first choice program- Power Engineering. It was an easy decision for me to commit to St. Clair!"

Zylstra, a native of St. Thomas, will be graduating from St. Joseph's Catholic Secondary School where he won the OFSAA high school division in 2022 . Jack is registered for the Business Diploma program.  Jack has a significant amount of experience playing in many Golf Ontario and Golf Canada events including multiple wins on the Tyson Tour.

Jack can't want to join the St. Clair program. "I chose to further my education at St. Clair for a number of reasons…the inclusive on campus atmosphere, the faculty that provides extensive academic opportunities, the sports focused community as well as my friends whom already attend Saint Clair. As for golf, I chose to join a team that has proven to the rest of the province that they're a force to be reckoned with. The facilities in which, are provided for the golf team at St. Clair will allow me to progress athletically along my journey."

Hill is from Lakeshore and graduated from St. Anne's. Steven is a transfer from the University of Windsor and Adrian College. He is currently enrolled in the three year Business Administration Marketing program. Steven spent one season with Adrian in 2020 finishing in 1st place in one event. Hill tied for 6th place to be named an OUA all-star with an overall +1 (143) at the OUA Championship this past fall.

Steven is excited to becoming a Saint. "St Clair College provides the perfect balance for athletics and academics; fostering my academic growth while also allowing me to continue my passion of playing golf. I love the atmosphere at the college for all students and athletes and look forward to helping the Saints succeed provincially and nationally."

The St. Clair men's team won an OCAA team bronze medal and had a 4th place at Nationals finish last fall.

The men's team will be competing in the Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championship for the first time ever from June 3-6 at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club in Sudbury.

Head Coach Kevin Corriveau is excited to add to these three golfers to his roster. "Alyssa, Jack and Steven will make exceptional additions to our campus and our current golf team and athletic community. I am incredibly excited they have chosen our college to further their academic and golf careers. They will continue to help us build on our successes going forward. They are a perfect fit and I am very excited to have them on this team."
