Men's Golf Team in Hunt for National Medal

Quebec City, QC – The St. Clair College men's golf team slid down one spot on the leaderboard on Thursday at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships presented by PING. The event is being hosted at Club de Golf Lorette just outside Quebec City.

The St. Clair men are now sitting in 4th place but are only 1 stroke out of a bronze medal heading into the final round. John Van Bilsen (Glencoe; Glencoe District) led the way on Thursday shooting a 2 over 74 followed by Simon Moir (London; St. Thomas Aquinas) who carded a 3 over 75 on a much tougher golf course than the first two days with the wind picking up. Van Bilsen is tied for 7th place in the individual competition.

Justine Gorham (Amherstburg; L'Essor) shot an 80 on Thursday while Shannon Coffey (Windsor; Brennan) finished with an 83. Coffey is sitting in 9th place while Gorham is in 11th. Their OCAA2 conference team is in third place in the women's conference competition.

The scheduled 72-hole tournament runs through Friday. Golfers representing twelve Canadian colleges from Ontario, Alberta and Quebec are taking part.

The tournament consists of four 18-hole rounds, weather permitting. The men's and women's player posting the lowest gross score through 72 holes will earn their respective individual championship.

Men's teams consist of five golfers, with the top four individual scores of each round contributing to the total team score. Schools with the lowest aggregate of gross scores after 72 holes win the respective team titles.

The women's team competition is a conference based event with 3 players on each conference team and the top 2 counting each day.
