Golf Teams Start National Championships on Tuesday in Quebec

The St. Clair College women's and men's golf teams are in Quebec City this week to take part in the 2023 CCAA Golf National Championships. The practice round took part on Monday with the first of four scheduled rounds starting on Tuesday at Club de Golf Lorette.

This will be the first time that the St. Clair men's team has qualified for Nationals since 2008. The men are coming off winning an OCAA Bronze medal; their first OCAA Division 1 team medal since 2007. There are 11 teams competing from across Canada.

This will be Shannon Coffey's fourth appearance at the National Championship. She has finished in 5th place at the last two Nationals. The women's team has had several appearances at Nationals in recent years.

The Saints golf team is ranked 5th in Canada heading into the Championships.

Head Coach Kevin Corriveau is very excited to have the opportunity to once again have both squads representing the college at the National Championships. "Shannon's play has always been consistent for us and we are looking for her to continue to provide that consistency for OCAA ConferenceTeam 2 along with her St. Clair teammate and freshman Justine Gorham. Megan Schaafsma will be competing as an individual this year and has shown consistent improvement throughout the season. As far as the men are concerned, this will be a tremendous learning experience for all of them. With four freshman, Spencer Higginbottom, Simon Moir, Owen Laverty, Nate Woods and returning 2nd year Captain, John Van Bilsen, we are definitely excited for this experience and believe we are building towards a great future for our golf program."
