Men's Golf Team in Hunt for OCAA Medal at Championships

WINDSOR, Ont. – The St. Clair College Golf teams had another good day in round two at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Championships. It was another very hot day at Ambassador Golf Club for the 57 competitors with the temperature reaching 29 degrees.

The St. Clair men remained in bronze medal position but gained some ground on second place Fanshawe and improved their lead over fourth place heading into the final round. The Saints are 10 shots behind the Falcons and have an 11 shot lead over Georgian. St. Clair had the second best team score of the day shooting 11 over. Humber has a commanding lead in the team standings, with the Hawks leading the Falcons by 23 strokes. The Saints were led by Spencer Higginbottom (Lakeshore; Tecumseh Vista) who shot an even par 71 and sits tied for 10th place after 2 rounds. Simon Moir (London; St. Thomas Aquinas) had another great round shooting another 3 over par 74 to end up tied with Higginbottom.

Shannon Coffey (Windsor; Brennan) led the Saints shooting 83 a followed by Justine Gorham (Amherstburg; L'Essor) who carded a 90 . Coffey sits 5th in place and is 10 shots back of a medal. The Humber women lead the women's team competition over St. Clair.

The scheduled 54-hole tournament runs through Wednesday. Golfers represent 10 Ontario college campuses, including Confederation, Durham, Fanshawe, Georgian, Humber, Loyalist, Niagara, St. Clair, St. Lawrence and Sault.

The tournament consists of three 18-hole rounds, weather permitting. The men's and women's player posting the lowest gross score through 54 holes will earn their respective individual championship.

Men's teams consist of four or five golfers, with the top four individual scores of each round contributing to the total team score. Women's teams consist of two or three golfers, with the top two individual scores of each round contributing to their total score. Schools with the lowest aggregate of gross scores after 54 holes win the respective team titles.

Daily results at the championships will be available online via the championship website and OCAA.com.

The top OCAA golfers and teams will move on to compete at the 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Golf National Championships presented by PING. The event takes place at the Lorette Golf Club in Quebec City from Oct. 16-20.
