Golf Team Day 1 Results at OCAA Championship

(Oct 3) Niagara Falls, ON- The St. Clair College men's and women's varsity golf teams got off to a slow start at the OCAA Championship on Monday. The Championship is being hosted by Niagara College at Legends on the Niagara Battlefield Course from October 3-5.

The Saints women are currently sitting in 2nd place in the 3 day event with a team score of 174. Three players play for each team with the best 2 scores counting each day. St. Clair is a long way back from 1st place but have 2 more rounds to make up some ground.

Sophia Fallea (LaSalle; Villanova) had a solid start to the Championship shooting an 86 on the par 72 course. After a slow start on the front nine shooting 48 she bounced back with a 38 on the next nine holes. She is currently tied for 5th place but only 4 strokes away from a medal.

The Saints men are currently sitting in 7th place in the 3 day event with a team score of 338 . Five players play for each team with the best 4 scores counting each day. Rookie John Van Bilsen (Glencoe; Glencoe District) led the way for the Saints with a score of 80 and is tied for 15th place. The men are only 3 strokes out of 5th place which would give them a chance to attend the CCAA Nationals.

The Saints are coached by head coach Kevin Corriveau and assistant coach Katelin Lawson.
