Saints High Powered Offense Too Much for Hurricanes

Windsor, ON – Another packed house at Acumen Stadium on Saturday, September 9th saw the Saints Football team move to 4-0 on the season after defeating the Hamilton Hurricanes 62-21.

The Saints high powered offense scored early and often in the first half of the Homecoming game as the Saints took a 41-7 lead into the half. It all started in the first quarter when QB Maurice Sodja (Louisville, Kentucky, USA) hit Wideout Enzey Youyoute (Mississauga, ON) for a 32-yard catch. This was quickly followed by his partner in crime QB Matt Guenette (Windsor, ON) threw a ball to WR Zack Burmaster (Hamilton, ON) that ended in a one-handed catch for a 29-yard touchdown. Two minutes later Sodja was back in the game and found Youyoute in the endzone for his second touchdown of the game. MJ Doyle-Marshall (Airdrie, AB) opened the second quarter scoring frenzy with a 20-yard rushing touchdown, this was shortly followed by another Burmaster receiving touchdown, this time from the arm of Sodja. The Hurricanes had a big play touchdown of their own in the last minute of the half, but the Saints offense was not to be outdone, 10 seconds later Sodja threw a bomb to Wide Receiver Javier Lewis (Toronto, ON) who extended his touchdown streak to 4 games catching a 61-yard pass for the touchdown to end the half. Lewis later added another receiving touchdown from Sodja for 33-yards.

Quarterback Maurice Sodja finished his near perfect game throwing 7 completions on 8 attempts for 193 yards and 5 passing touchdowns, he was also the Saints leading rusher finishing with 66 yards on 6 attempts. Boriz Wright (Windsor, ON) and Gage Blasco (Lethbridge, AB) also added rushing touchdowns in the second half.

The defense also had their fun, as Defensive Lineman Carl Fabre (Windsor, ON) had his number called many times as he registered 4 sacks and was all over the field for the Saints. Billy Patterson Jr. (Windsor, ON) led the team in tackles and registered an interception to his resume. All-Canadian Nate Norton (Windsor, ON) recorded an interception and first year Defensive Back Brandon Vecchio (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) also had his first interception of his collegiate career. The Saints defense also forced 3 fumbles and recovered all 3 of them.

The Saints Football team were apart of a historic weekend in St. Clair Athletics history as they played their part in a 10-0 weekend. They will now hit the road next weekend as they travel to Brampton to take on the GTA Grizzlies. Game is scheduled for Sunday, September 17th at 1:00pm.
