Women's Softball Finish Regular Season with Home Win

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team wrapped up their regular season with an 11-3 win over Conestoga College (Kitchener) Tuesday night at the SportsPark diamond.  This was a rescheduled game from their Sep. 28th rainout and the Saints will finish 3rd in the OCAA standings with a 17-7 record.  

Conestoga put up a run in the opening frame, but St. Clair answered with three in the bottom half before taking a 7-1 lead in the 2nd inning.  The teams played scoreless for the next three innings before the Conestoga added a pair in the 6th.  The Saints replied with four runs in the 6th and flirted with the mercy differential but ultimately settled for a clean sheet in the 7th to end the game. 

Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) had three hits including a double in her final home game for St. Clair and scored three times.  Ashley Marchand (Fergus, ON) had three singles to go with two RBI and two runs scored for the Saints while teammate Judy Lafleur (Essex, ON/Essex) scored three times after a pair of singles adding two RBI.  Kamryn Coombs (Atwood, ON) continued her tear at the plate for St. Clair driving in five RBI thanks to a 3-run homer in the first inning and later doubled.  Danna Juarez (Airdrie, AB) pitched three scoreless innings in relief to earn her 7th win of the season for the Saints striking out two batters. 

St. Clair will get on the bus Wednesday morning to defend their CCSA National Championship which is being hosted by the University of Ottawa at the Carp Fairground in Carp, ON this weekend.  The Saints open with pool play games on Friday against the University of Western Ontario (London) at 12:30pm followed by a matchup with the University of Calgary at 2:30pm.  They finish pool play on Saturday at 11:30am against Humber College (Etobicoke) before quarterfinal and semifinal play begins later that day.  The championship concludes on Sunday with the Bronze Medal game at 10:00am before the Gold/Silver Medal game at 12:30pm.
