Rain Halts St. Clair Women's Softball Doubleheader with Conestoga

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team fought through persistent drizzle Saturday afternoon to beat Conestoga College (Kitchener) 19-4 before the doubleheader had to be stopped due to wet conditions.  The Saints are now 10-5 and sit 3rd in the OCAA standings.

The opening game was delayed over an hour to allow rains to subside, but wet conditions continued throughout the day.  St. Clair scored 14 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning on 7 hits and 7 walks.  Conestoga scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning before the Saints replied 4 of their own.  St. Clair completed secured the mercy differential run in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  Judy Lafleur (Essex, ON/Essex) had two hits and an RBI to go with 3 runs scored for the Saints.  Brooke Cameron (Rimbey, AB) also had two hits including a double and scored three runs adding two RBI for St. Clair.  Reese Grondin (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and Kirsten Kipfer (Mitchell, ON) each had a double with three and five RBI respectively for the Saints.  In short work St. Clair starting pitcher Ashton Fong (Colwood, BC) picked up her first win of the season giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks but struck out one Conestoga batter.

After delaying another 1.5 hours game two could not be started as the rain would not allow for the players to warmup.  This game will be postponed and rescheduled to another date.

Sunday is Softball Fan Appreciation Day when the Saints host Durham College (Oshawa) with game times of 12:00pm and 2:00pm.  The Saints Student Athletic Association Inc. will be providing hats, t-shirts and cow bells to the first 100 spectators and the St. Clair Softball team members will remain after the completion of the games to sign autographs.
