Women's Softball 22-2 After Senior Day Sweep of Sheridan

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team finished off their regular season by celebrating Senior Day before a doubleheader sweep of Sheridan College (Brampton) on Sunday at the SportsPark diamond winning by scores of 15-0 and 8-0.  The Saints finished with a 22-2 record this year and will carry the #2 ranking into the OCAA Championship tournament which earned them a bye into the semi-final round on Friday. The 6-team event is being hosted by Humber College (Etobicoke) at Connorvale Park and sudden death play-in games begin on Thursday.

In the opener on Sunday St. Clair wasted no time putting up two runs in the first inning and then exploded for 13 runs in the second which meant they only need to hold Sheridan scoreless in the third for the mercy shortened result.  Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, ON) was 3-for-3 including a double and a triple that drove in five RBI with teammates Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names), Sierra Baltzer (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich), Ashley Ventura (Fergus, ON) and Reese Grondin (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) all notching two hits in the game for the Saints.  Mckenna Copley (Dover Centre, ON) picked her 13th win of the season giving up four hits and a walk to go with a pair of strikeouts.

Game two was more competitive in the early stages with Saints scoring a run in the first and third innings but three runs in each of the fourth and fifth put the contest out of reach.  Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) was a dual threat homering twice at the plate but spun a 2-hit shutout on the pitching strip allowing a pair of walks while striking out eleven Bruins.  Murphy had a triple as part of her two hits with Baltzer doubling in her two hits.  Grondin also had another two singles in the game that helped drive in a pair of runs.

Before the first game St. Clair recognized their graduating players with a brief ceremony celebrating the careers of Claydon, Kressler and Julia Brusseau (Windsor, ON/St. Anne).
