St. Clair Women's Softball Poised for Gold

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team is on the verge of an OCAA Gold Medal after winning a pair of games on Friday at the Provincial Championship tournament being hosted by Fanshawe College in London.  The Saints advanced to the gold medal round with a 3-1 victory in the morning over the host Falcons and a 11-0 victory over Durham College (Oshawa) in the afternoon.  St. Clair will face the winner of Durham and Humber College (Etobicoke) at 1:00pm on Saturday but will have to be beaten twice in the double knockout format.

In the Fanshawe win St. Clair's Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, ON) scored on an error in the 1st inning to put her team ahead early and then extended their lead in the 3rd inning when she hit a 2-RBI double.  Kressler made the Player of the Game tabulation simple as she pitched a complete game 1-hitter with 13 strikeouts and only surrendered 2 walks with no earned runs.

In the pivotal win over Durham, Kressler was dominant once again starting with a 2-RBI triple in the first inning and then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0.  In the second frame Sierra Baltzer (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) scored on an error followed by a Kressler sacrifice fly that scored Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names).  Baltzer crossed the plate for the second time that inning on a wild pitch to make the score 6-0. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Murphy and Baltzer had back-to-back singles but were then brought home by OCAA Batting Champion Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) with a base clearing double to extend the lead to 11-0 that completed the scoring.  Two innings later the Saints secured the mercy shortened victory in five innings.  St. Clair starting pitcher Mckenna Copley (Dover Centre, ON) went the distance to take the win on the pitching strip giving up only 2 hits while Murphy was named the Player of the Game for the Saints.
