Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team outlasted Fanshawe College (London) Thursday night in the opener of a doubleheader but then capped the night with a shutout for the evening sweep. The Saints collected wins of 3-2 and 8-0 to move their OCAA undefeated record to 12-0 on the season.
St. Clair moved ahead 2-0 in the 2nd inning of game one after Joshua Hudvagner (Essex, ON/Essex) plated a pair of runs on a double. Fanshawe responded with two runs in the 3rd inning and the teams played scoreless until the final frame. Hudvagner doubled to start the 7th inning and the Saints loaded the bases for Jordan Miller (Kitchener, ON) who singled which brought home the walk-off run. St. Clair starter Brock Whitson (Chatham, ON) earned his 4th win of the season going the distance and surrendered only two runs on two hits and a walk but struck out seven Fanshawe batters. Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) and Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) each also had two singles for St. Clair in the game.
In game two the Saints did all the damage early scoring three runs in the 1st inning followed by a single in the 2nd and four more in the 3rd which completed the scoring. St. Clair starter Brady Knelsen (Leamington, ON/Leamington) was stellar again only giving up three hits and two walks over six innings of work while striking out seven to secure his 4th victory of the season. Miller had two more hits including a double and drove in three runs for the Saints. St. Clair's Rowan Glasgow (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) also hit safely twice including a triple to go with a walk that allowed him to score a pair of runs and added an RBI.
The Saints will take the weekend off before returning to league play October 4th when they travel to Sarnia to take on Lambton College who will play host to the OCAA Provincial Championship tournament Oct. 17-19.
