
Men’s Baseball Move to 6-0 with Sheridan Sweep
Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team moved their record to 6-0 Sunday afternoon at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh following a doubleheader sweep of Sheridan College (Brampton). The Saints ended a perfect home weekend with scores of 8-4 and 6-2 over the visiting Bruins (0-6).
In game one St. Clair fell behind 2-0 in the 3rd inning but responded in their bottom half with three runs to take back the advantage. Sheridan tied it up 3-3 in the 5th inning, however the Saints produced a 4-run outburst instantly before the teams each added a run in the 6th to complete the scoring. St. Clair starter Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) opened with three innings before giving way to 1st year pitcher Michael Grondin (Windsor, ON/Riverside) and they combined to spread out 7 Sheridan hits while only surrendering an earned run apiece. Rookie first baseman Cole Saros (Toronto, ON) had two hits in the game including a double and finished with 5 RBI. 3rd year outfielder Spencer Morin (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) was 3-for-4 with a double and Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) clubbed a solo home run in the 6th inning put the game to rest for the Saints.
St. Clair jumped ahead 4-0 in the 1st inning of game two before the teams went quiet until the Saints added two more runs in the 6th. Sheridan put together a 2-run rally in the final frame, but it did not affect the outcome. 3rd year transfer outfielder Andrew Sleiman (Leamington, ON) was 3-for-3 with three singles in the contest for St. Clair driving in two runs and scored once to lead his team offensively. Real had two more hits for the Saints pushing his average to .524 on the season. 3rd pitcher Cody Moore (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) gave up only four hits over four innings of work to take the win for St. Clair while 1st year hurler Jake Heinbuch (Stratford, ON) collected the save with three strikeouts over the final three innings.
The Saints host the University of Windsor Wednesday in an exhibition game at Lacasse Park with first pitch scheduled for 7pm. St. Clair returns to OCAA league action next weekend in the GTA with a doubleheader against Durham College (Oshawa) on Saturday followed by a pair on Sunday versus Centennial College (Scarborough).
