Women's Volleyball Players Earn Major Awards

(Oakville, ON)- Four members of the St. Clair College's women's volleyball team received OCAA and CCAA Award recognition on Wednesday night prior to the OCAA Championship being hosted by Sheridan College.

Kiana Huggins was named to the OCAA West Division First All Star Team. Huggins, a London native, is a graduate from Saunders Secondary School and is a 5'9' outside hitter. Kiana is taking the Business Administration Finance program with one more year left to graduate.

Huggins was also named a CCAA All Canadian. Only three players in the OCAA received this award. The last St. Clair women's volleyball to win this prestigious award was Noelle Browning in 1995.

Huggins averaged 3.3 points/set during her second season with the Saints. She averaged 2.84 kills/set and had a .268 kill percentage.  She also contributed with some great defense averaging 2.12 digs/set. She was arguably one of the best all around players in the OCAA West Division.

Chantal DeVlugt was honoured as a member of the West Division Second All Star Team. DeVlugt is a 6'0 third year outside hitter and is from Wyoming where she graduated from LCCVI. Chantal graduated from the Architectural Technology program last year and will be finishing up the Carpentry & Renovations Techniques program this spring.

DeVlugt averaged 2.9 points/set which includes 2.49 kills/set during regular season play. She also averaged 1.03 digs/set.

Emma Clements was named to the OCAA West Division All Rookie Team. Clements, a Windsor native, is a graduate from Holy Names High School and is a 5'4 setter. Emma is in her first year of the four year Bachelor of Applied Arts in Social Justice program.

Emma averaged 6.46 assists/set along with 1.91 digs/set. She also chipped in offensively with 0.76 service aces/set which placed her 6th in the entire OCAA.

Geneva Huisman was also named to the All Rookie team. Huisman is from Amherstburg and graduated from Marantha Christian Academy and is a 6'3 middle. She is in her first year of the three you Child and Youth Care Advanced Diploma.

Geneva averaged 2.9 points/set during her rookie campaign including a .336 kill percentage good enough for 5th in OCAA. She also had 0.61 stuff blocks/set good enough for 5th in the OCAA West Division.

The St. Clair women (14-4 Third Place West Division) will be taking on the Seneca Sting (14-4 Second Place East Division) in OCAA quarterfinal action at 3 pm on Thursday at the OCAA Championship. The winner will advance to play Humber or Niagara in the semifinal on Friday night. The Saints are ranked 4th in Ontario while Seneca is ranked 5th.
