(Hamilton, ON)- The St. Clair women's volleyball team continued their OCAA regular season schedule on the road for two games this weekend and came away with a split in two tough exciting matches.
On Friday night, the Saints were in Ancaster to take on the Redeemer University Royals and came away with a hard fought 3-2 win. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-23, 27-25, 17-25, 16-25 and 15-13. Ashley Maleyko (LaSalle; Villanova) had a big game with 10 kills, 2 assists, 2 aces and 12 digs. Geneva Huisman (Amherstburg; Marantha Christian) had a great game as well with 10 kills, 1 service ace and 1 stuff block.
With loss Redeemer fell to 3-2 on the season. The Royals are ranked 7th in Ontario.
The women were Hamilton on Saturday afternoon to take on the Mohawk Mountaineers in a battle of two unbeaten squads. The Saints got off to a great start winning the first set but ran out of gas losing the next three tight sets. Set scores for Mohawk were 24-26, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-20. Huisman led the way offensively for St. Clair with 9 kills, 1 service ace, and 1 stuff blocks. Maleyko also chipped in with 9 kills and 1 stuff block.
With the win Mohawk's record improved to 5-0. The Mountaineers are ranked 3rd in the OCAA.
With the split on the weekend St. Clair's record now sits at 5-1. The Saints are ranked 4th in Ontario. The St. Clair women are next in action at home at the Sportsplex on Saturday, November 19 at 1 pm against the top ranked Humber Hawks for their first of three straight home matches.
