Women's Soccer Excited to Add Two Key Recruits
September 1, 2021 (Windsor, ON) The St. Clair College Department of Athletics and women's soccer program is pleased to announce the commitment of two top recruits for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Joining the team will be Athena Dimario Done and Malary Cole.
Dimario Done is a Windsor native and graduate of St. Joseph's High School. The 5'9 keeper played for 3 seasons at the University of Minnesota Crookston (NCAA DII). She also previously played for the White Eagles 99 Soccer Club. Dimario Done was an honorable mention All-City pick in Windsor as a junior and earned Second Team All-City honors as a senior. Athena will be enrolled in the Pre-Service Firefighting Program.
Dimario Done is excited to be at St. Clair. "I chose St. Clair for the unique opportunity to take the Pre-Service Firefighter Program as it is a program that is not offered at many institutions. At my first practice I felt right at home and saw everything that I wanted in a team. The women's soccer team is not just a team they are a family and I wanted to buy into the program but also be a part of this family. St. Clair Women's soccer was the best fit for me due to those reasons and many more."
Coach Kris Geier is looking forward to having Dimario Done on his roster. "Athena will solidify our goal keeping situation. She is a very good shot stopper, distributes the ball well, has a great understanding of the game and is an excellent communicator out of the back."
Cole is from Thunder Bay and a graduate of St. Ignatius High School. The 5'3 midfielder also played for the Thunder Bay Chill. At St. Ignatius she was a three time Superior Secondary Schools Athletic Association (SSSAA) champion, two time soccer all star and SSSAA top scorer in one of her seasons. Malary will be taking the Protection, Security and Investigation Program at St. Clair.
Cole is happy to be a St. Clair Saint. "I wanted to broaden and further my education with a more hands-on approach. I believe that St. Clair college can provide me with the proper resources, tools, and education to be an outstanding police officer. I also saw an opportunity to play for their women's soccer team and after speaking with the coaches in June I knew right away that St. Clair was not only the right choice for my education but also for athletics."
"Malary will be a key player in our midfield. She has brought a good work ethic and knows the game well. We will be looking for her to be a force in the midfield not only distributing the ball but also finding the back of the net. She also brings a joyful demeanor to our squad," stated Coach Geier.
The Saints also have several important players returning for the 2021-22 season. Some of the key returnees include Cassie Nicholas, Jaclyn French, Ally Schooley, Natalie Turner and Alayna Banks.
The Saints kick off their regular season on Friday, September 17 at the new Acumen Stadium at the St. Clair SportsPark against the Fanshawe Falcons at 6 pm.
