Women's Indoor Soccer Win OCAA Bronze

Vaughan (ON).  The St. Clair College women's indoor soccer team didn't come home with the medal they were hoping for but still earned OCAA Bronze on Thursday afternoon. The Saints took part in the OCAA Championship in Vaughan at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the Bronze Medal game against Lakehead University Orillia the Saints came up out top by a score of 1-0. Ravneet Rana (Windsor; Riverside) scored late in the first half for St. Clair. The Saints dominated play for the majority of the match but could not put another goal by the Lakehead keeper.  However, the one goal was all the Saints needed to earn the Bronze medals.

Earlier in the day St. Clair lost 1-0 to the Seneca Sting in the Championship semi-final in a tightly contested match. Seneca scored midway through the first half to take the lead. The Saints had a great second half but could not put one past the Sting keeper to even the score. Seneca went on to defeat Humber in the Gold medal game.

St. Clair had earned their way into the semi-final by winning all three games on Wednesday in robin play. The Saints scored 8 goals and allowed none in their first day of competition.

Keeper Natalie Turner (Windsor; Holy Names) was named a Championship All Star. In five games in the tournament Turner only allowed one goal.

The St. Clair women have now earned all three coloured medals in recent years. The Saints won Gold in 2014-15 and Silver in 2016-17. St. Clair also qualified for the semi-finals and were guaranteed a medal game in 2019-20 but the event was cancelled the morning of the semi-final due to COVID 19.
