OCAA Women’s Basketball Awards Honour Saints

Windsor, ON – The OCAA Women's Basketball Awards that were released Wednesday included some high-level recognition for the St. Clair Saints program. 

St. Clair's 5th year transfer guard Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON) become the 7th Saint in school history to be selected as a CCAA All-Canadian and the first since Shannon Kennedy achieved the feat in 2015.  In addition, she was the OCAA and West Division Scoring Champion as well as being named a West Division First-Team All-Star.  Overeem finished the regular season with a 20.9ppg average but was also 2nd in OCAA assists at 5.3 per game while adding a team high 7.8 rebounds per contest.  Her 334 points in the regular season was the 4th most prolific scoring total in Saints history and she became only the 5th St. Clair Women's player to lead the province in scoring average.

Ania Buklarewicz (Mississauga, ON) was St. Clair's first OCAA Rookie of the Year Award winner since 2014 (Kennedy) after finishing 9th in provincial triple makes with 27 and had the 12th best OCAA conversion rate at 31.7% as part of her 9.8ppg.  She was also selected as a member of the West Division All-Rookie team.

St. Clair's Andy Kiss won his first OCAA Coach of the Year Award after being named the top bench boss in the West Division.  Kiss is in his 10th season and led St. Clair to a 2nd Place result in the West Division with a 13-3 record.  The Saints are currently ranked 4th in Ontario and were included in the national poll for most of the season.  Kiss is looking to qualify St. Clair for the provincial championship tournament for the 9th time where they have won four OCAA medals including three silver and a bronze.  After this OCAA acknowledgement he is being nominated for the CCAA National Coach of the Year Award which will be announced in mid-March. 

The Saints host George Brown College (Toronto) on Saturday in the provincial quarterfinals with the winner advancing to the OCAA Final Four Championship the following weekend.  Tip time is set for 3:30pm at the SportsPlex.
