Saints are Ready to Host OCAA Women’s Basketball Championship

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team (10-0) are ready to host OCAA Provincial Championship Final Four and open the tournament against Algonquin College (Ottawa) on Wednesday at 6:00pm.  The Saints are the #2 ranked team in the province and sit at #9 in the most recent national poll. 

Algonquin was 7-1 in the East and advanced to the Final Four after a 58-51 win over Loyalist College (Belleville) in the Divisional playoff and then won 66-45 over Lambton College (Sarnia) in the ¼ final.  Algonquin is the 6th ranked team in the OCAA in points scored (64.1 ppg) and the 2nd leading defensive team holding their opponents to 52.5 points per game.  The Wolves are led by first-year 5'6" guard Dasia McDonald (Nepean, ON) who was named to the East Division All-Rookie team as well as a 1st Team All-Star selection after averaging 14.9 points per game.  5th year Algonquin Head Coach Jaime McLean was named the East Division Coach of the Year. 

St. Clair is the West Division's top seed but won 60-56 over Fanshawe College (London) in the divisional round and then 92-60 over Durham College (Oshawa) in the ¼ finals to advance to the Final Four.  4th year guard Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) leads St. Clair in scoring at 17.1 points (OCAA 8th) and rebounding at 7.3 per game.  Sister Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) is averaging 14.5 points per game and leads the Saints in assists at 3.9 per game.  Rookie point guard Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) is also averaging double figures at 10.0 points per game to go with 3.5 assists per contest.  St. Clair has the 2nd ranked offense in the province scoring 71.8 points per game and is the 3rd best defensive team allowing just 53.4 points per contest. 

The Kucera twins were both named West Division 1st Team All-Stars while Bre'Aira Burton (Saginaw, MI) was selected as the Sixth Woman of the Year recipient.
