Women’s Basketball Final Four Bound

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team (10-0) remains undefeated and rolled to a 92-60 quarter-final playoff win over Durham College (Oshawa) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex.  The West Division's top seed was pre-selected to host OCAA Final Four Provincial Championship so the Saints will tip off the tournament against Algonquin College (Ottawa) on March 16th at 6:00pm.  Humber College (Etobicoke) will face Niagara College (Welland) in the other semi-final at 8:00pm on Wednesday and the medal games will be played Thursday evening.

In Saturday's win St. Clair jumped out of the gate quickly with a 9-0 run to start the game and finished the first quarter up 26-16.  Durham responded in the second frame cutting the Saints' lead to 41-34 by halftime.  But a huge third quarter that saw St. Clair make five triples and shoot 61% from the floor led to a 33-point output which put the outcome out of reach for the visitors.  The lead ballooned to 34-points during the fourth quarter as the Saints cruised to the win.

Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) scored a game high 21 points for the Saints while sister Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) notched 18 points and added 7 rebounds to go with 5 assists.  Jessica Paolini (Hamilton, ON) had another strong game for St. Clair scoring 14 points and narrowly missed a double-double with 9 rebounds.  Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) scored all 12 of her points from beyond the 3-point arc to become the final Saint to reach double figures.

St. Clair forced Durham into 25 turnovers which resulted in 27 transition points and 13 total makes from 3-point land aided the Saints in the victory.

Durham's Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) scored 15 points and added 6 rebounds for her team in the loss.
