St. Clair Women’s Basketball Clamp Down on Lambton
Sarnia, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team pushed their West Division record to 2-0 with a 62-41 road victory over Lambton College in Sarnia Friday night. A good defensive effort from the start frustrated Lambton into just 23% shooting from the field.
The Saints put the clamp down early rushing to a 14-0 advantage and didn't allow the home team to record any points until nearly 6 minutes had elapsed in the first quarter. Entering the second frame St. Clair was up 17-4 and went to the halftime locker room up 29-15. The Saints further increased their lead after outscoring Lambton 19-10 in the third quarter and forged ahead by as much as 27 points just a few minutes into the fourth.
4th year guard Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) led all scorers with 19 points for the Saints to go with 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Sister Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) recorded her 2nd consecutive double-double of the season scoring 12 points and added 11 rebounds along with 4 assists. Rookie Desiree Byrd (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) came off the bench to score 10 points for St. Clair in addition to 6 rebounds, 3 steals and a blocked shot.
The Saints outrebounded Lambton 57-33 in the contest including a decided difference of 22-9 on the offensive glass which resulted in 15 second chance points. St. Clair also converted 23 Lambton turnovers into 22 points.
Breanna Pretty (Sarnia, ON) scored 12 points for Lambton in a losing effort.
In an early season marquee matchup, the #4 nationally ranked Saints continue their OCAA West Division schedule on Tuesday when they travel to London to face the defending provincial champions and #8 ranked Fanshawe College with a 6:00pm tip time.
