Men’s Basketball Draw La Cité in Crossover

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team begin their quest for back-to-back provincial titles on Saturday when they host Collège La Cité (Ottawa) in the OCAA Crossover Playoff game which tips at 7:30pm in the SportsPlex.

The Coyotes were 8th in the East Division with a 4-14 record and will look to upset the West Division champion Saints who had a 15-3 record while sitting at #2 in the provincial rankings.  St. Clair also moved up to #8 in this week's CCAA National Poll.  The Saints were the highest scoring team in the OCAA regular season posting 95.3 points per matchup, but La Cité was dead last at 70.7 per game.  However, the Coyotes did hold their opponents to the 6th fewest points in the province (76.0) which was just ahead of the Saints at 77.2 per game.

St. Clair's Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) finished as the 6th best scorer at 18.5ppg while adding 5.9 rebounds per game.  Vincent-Simon also made the 5th most free throws (63-for-79) and shot the 11th best clip converting 79.7%.  Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) currently ranks 7th on the All-Time Saints career scoring list (1,591) and averaged 14.6ppg this past season to go with 5.2rpg while making the 7th most triples (45) in the province.

Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) netted 12.4ppg along with a team best 6.9rpg and a league best 2.0 blocks per game.  Andrew Loyuk (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) was fourth in the OCAA with 4.3 assists per game to go with 11.9ppg.  Galdo Tutu (Windsor, ON) rounded out St. Clair's double-digit scorers at 10.1ppg.

La Cité will counter with 6'3" forward Nelson Cilien (Montreal-Nord, QC) who averages a double-double including 18.1ppg (OCAA 7th) and is the second-best rebounder in the province at 11.0 per game.  St. Clair will have to game plan for Cilien as he is 10th in OCAA assists at 3.6 per game but also has the 11th most 3-point makes (36) in the province.  3rd year 6'0" guard Zamourane Chabi Sare (Djougou, Guinea) will also be a factor for the Coyotes who averages 12.0ppg.

Saturday's winner will advance to the quarter-finals next weekend.  The Men's Basketball game will be the final contest on Super Saturday after the 1:00pm Women's Volleyball quarterfinal against Durham College (Oshawa) and the Women's Basketball crossover playoff game also against Durham at 5:00pm.

All full-time St. Clair students in attendance will be eligible to win one of two $500 scholarships that will be picked during each game.

For those not able to attend it will be streamed live by WE Digital Productions at www.ocaalive.com/en/channel/st-clair-college.65
