Men’s Basketball 2-0 After Conestoga Win

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team are 2-0 to start their OCAA West Division season after a dominating 112-84 win over Conestoga College (Kitchener) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex. 

The Saints came out firing staking themselves to an 11-0 lead after the opening tip and never looked back.  Making five triples in the first quarter and ahead 29-17 leading to the second quarter, St. Clair finished the first half comfortably in front (60-34) after getting easy buckets in the paint before the break.  The Saints grew the difference to their largest lead of 42 points by the end of the third quarter and headed to the fourth up 96-59.  Conestoga did outscore St. Clair 25-16 in the final frame as reserve time became the priority. 

The Saints held statistical advantages in 3-point shooting makes (13 to 8) as well as decided gaps for points in the paint (56-40) and bench points (41-30).  St. Clair also cleared the glass ten more times (47-37) than the visitors which limited their opportunities.  Conestoga committed 21 turnovers and the Saints benefitted from 21 more shot attempts (91-70) in the contest.    

St. Clair's Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) continued his hot shooting and led all scorers with 27 points to go with 7 rebounds.  Andrew Loyuk (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) finished with 21 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds for the Saints while teammate Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) netted 16 points adding 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.  Galdo Tutu (Windsor, ON) chipped in with 15 points off the bench for St. Clair.

The St. Clair Men will have plenty of preparation time before resuming their league schedule when they travel to London and face Fanshawe College on November 3rd.
