Men’s Basketball Set School Record in Opener

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team started their league schedule off in style Friday night at the SportsPlex and set a new school record with a 125-85 win over Redeemer University (Ancaster).  The Saints (1-0) set a new standard for points scored in a regulation game breaking the old mark of 123 points which they achieved last January against Conestoga.

The Saints were red hot out of the gate outscoring the visitors 38-24 in the opening quarter while shooting a blistering 74% from the field.  Only cooling a bit in the second frame St. Clair took a 74-46 lead into the locker room by the halftime intermission.  The Saints flipped the scoreboard to triple digits by the end of the third quarter and held a comfortable 100-64 advantage entering the fourth.  Only needing to spread playing time around in the final quarter, St. Clair cruised to the final buzzer.

The Saints made 16 triples (45.7%) in the contest and were equally tough in transition earning 50 points in the paint.  But 25 Redeemer turnovers led to 36 easy points for St. Clair even though the Royals shot over 40% from the field and made 12 shots from distance.

Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) led St. Clair with a team high 22 points and added 5 rebounds.  Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) cleared a team high 6 rebounds to go with his 19 points as teammate Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) recorded 16 points in limited minutes.  Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) also reached double figures with 11 points for the Saints.

The St. Clair Men host Conestoga College (Kitchener) on Saturday at 4:00pm to complete the home weekend.
